Review: Bombshells by Sarina Bowen

I love Sarina Bowen and enjoy her books. I don’t even remember what the first book I read from her was or when that was. But I can tell you, it was way before she started the Brooklyn Bruisers so this gave me a chance to follow the series from the beginning. As you can imagine sometimes it gets frustrating to wait for the next book of a series, but it is worth the wait. Just like this book. Bombshells is the eighth book of the series and thanks to this book, now I am dying to get my hands on the next one. I think Bombshells is my favorite book of the series, I still cannot decide if my favorite is Brooklynaire or Bombshells but I am leaning more towards this one. Also, I am going to start with a word of advice DO NOT start reading this book after dinner time, or if you will then make sure it is Friday or Saturday. Otherwise, you will be just like me next morning half asleep and coffeed up so that I can function. So now let’s dive right into the Baby Bayer and Hot Goalie’s story.

Anton Bayer plays hockey for Brooklyn Bruisers. He had an amazing rookie year, however thanks to all partying, pranks, and women, he tanked his second season and sent to the farm team. He knows this season is a do-or-die for him so he makes three rules to follow: no booze, no women, and no scandals. Unfortunately, his rules get a bit hazy when he runs into Sylvie. Sylvie Hansen is the goalie for Brooklyn’s new women’s hockey team Bombshells. This is not the first time I am reading about a woman hockey player, however, this is the first time I am reading about a women’s hockey team and I LOVED it. Of course, I DID NOT love the pay injustice or the hardship they go through to do something they love. I want to thank Sarina Bowen for writing about this and pointing injustice professional women athletes face once again. So back to Sylvie and the Bombshells. I loved how strong, ambitious and sweet Sylvie is. When she gets a chance to play hockey professionally, she decides to jump on a plane and move to Brooklyn from Canada. She is excited about the fact that she will be playing the sport she loves and also be in the same city with the guy she was mooning over since she was a teenager, Bryce Campeau who plays for Bruisers. Since Bruisers and Bombshells are sharing the same training facility, Sylvie decides to surprise Bryce which doesn’t go as planned but she gets lucky and meets with Anton. While the chemistry between Anton and Sylvie is sizzling hot, Anton decides to not act on it. First of all, he swore off women, at least during the season, and secondly, because of his loyalty to Bryce, so he decides the best way of action is to be Sylvie’s friend. He has no clue what a torture he will be in by friend-zoning her. I loved the way Anton and Sylvie’s relationship developed. It took Anton a bit to get his head out of his backside but it was all good in the end. I don’t think I can tell you more without spoiling the story for you so I will be telling you what else made me laugh and curious.

Firstly, I love Rebecca Kattenberger. She is an amazing owner and OMG! it was hilarious to see the reaction of Bruisers players to the newly upgraded locker room amenities. Secondly, I loved the other Bombshell players, the two we see more often since one is Sylvie’s roommate, is Fiona, and Charli. Fiona is the captain and the roommate. She is super cool and easygoing. As for Charli, she is a firecracker. Charli and Cornelius Drake, also a Bruiser player, met in an unfortunate way and man did Charli made Drake pay over and over again. I cannot wait to get my hands on their book, Shenanigans, which will be released in March 2022.

Bombshells was everything I hoped for and so much more! It is a sweet, funny, and sexy story, you won’t be able to put it down.
