Kendall Ryan is one of my favorite authors, so I always look forward to losing myself in one of her sweet, steamy, and wonderfully addictive romances. Knights Like These gave me everything I hoped for: childhood best friends, years of hidden longing, an overwhelmed single dad, adorable twins, and a delicious slow burn that had me impatiently waiting for Sydney and Archer to finally open their eyes—and their mouths!
Sydney has loved Archer Lockwood since she was fourteen. He was her first kiss, her first everything, and the person she always imagined would be her forever. Unfortunately, Archer went on to marry someone else while Sydney remained his loyal best friend, quietly supporting him through every milestone—even when doing so broke her heart.
Now Archer is divorced and trying to balance life as an NHL goalie with raising his three-year-old twins, Lily and Luke. When he realizes he needs help, Sydney is the only person he trusts enough to call. She packs her bags and heads to New York, determined to help her best friend without allowing all those old feelings to resurface.
That plan lasts about as long as you would expect. 😊
My heart truly ached for Sydney. Her love for Archer was so deep and unwavering, and knowing that she had stood beside him while he married another woman and created the family she once dreamed of having with him made her story especially emotional. I admired her strength, but I also wanted her to choose herself and recognize that her life could not always revolve around Archer.
And then there was Archer. Oh, Archer… this man made me want to reach inside the book and shake some sense into him! 😂 He could be unbelievably oblivious, especially when it came to his feelings for Sydney. I would have loved to see him recognize what was between them a little sooner—and work slightly harder to convince both Sydney and me that he was finally ready to give her the love she deserved.
Still, once the dynamic between them began to change, the chemistry was impossible to ignore. Their shared history made every lingering look and almost-moment feel even more meaningful. The slow burn definitely tested my patience, but it also allowed the emotional tension to build until their romance felt natural and deeply rooted in the friendship they had shared for years.
Of course, Lily and Luke were the true scene-stealers. The twins brought so much laughter, sweetness, and beautiful chaos to the story. I loved watching Sydney form such an easy, loving bond with them, and the scenes featuring all four characters gave us the warmest glimpse of the family they could become. Those little matchmakers knew exactly what they were doing!
Knights Like These is a heartfelt and engaging friends-to-lovers romance filled with longing, family, humor, and plenty of chemistry. It made me smile, made my heart hurt for Sydney, and made me roll my eyes affectionately at Archer more than once. Most importantly, it kept me rooting for these two lifelong friends to stop hiding from their feelings and finally take a chance on the love that had been waiting for them all along.
