Ice Cold Chemistry is exactly why Kendall Ryan remains one of my go-to authors. She has this effortless way of creating romances that feel sweet, emotional, and completely addictive, and this book reminded me why I always get excited whenever she announces a new release.
After escaping a toxic relationship, Winnie is determined to focus on herself and her dream job as the New York Knights’ new yoga instructor. Unfortunately, not everyone on the team takes her seriously, and instead of appreciating the value she brings, many of the players see her as little more than a distraction. That’s where Banks steps in with one of the most ridiculous—and honestly, one of the cutest—fake dating schemes ever. If everyone thinks Winnie is his girlfriend, the locker room antics stop. Simple… right?
Of course, we all know fake dating is never simple.
Banks completely stole my heart. Beneath his intimidating, broody exterior is a man who has spent his entire life convincing himself that needing people only leads to heartbreak. Growing up in the foster system left him with walls that seem impossible to break down, and watching those walls slowly crumble because of Winnie’s kindness was easily my favorite part of the story. He isn’t your typical grumpy hero—he’s quiet, protective, deeply loyal, and carries so much emotional weight that all I wanted was to wrap him in a giant hug.
Winnie was every bit his perfect match. She’s warm, patient, optimistic, and quietly resilient. After everything she’s been through, it would have been easy for her to build walls of her own, but instead she chooses kindness without sacrificing her strength. I especially loved that she never tried to change Banks—she simply gave him the space to lower his guard when he was ready.
Their relationship develops at exactly the right pace. The fake dating begins with pretend handholding, playful banter, and a few stolen moments, but it gradually evolves into something built on trust and genuine understanding. Every interaction feels earned, making the slow burn all the more satisfying as neither of them realizes just how deeply they’re falling.
One thing I especially loved was how Kendall Ryan balanced the emotional moments with humor and heart. Banks’ past is undeniably heartbreaking, but the story never feels heavy. Instead, every vulnerable moment is balanced with laugh-out-loud team banter, swoony romance, and the sense of found family that makes this series so enjoyable. And that dinner with Winnie’s parents? Easily one of my favorite scenes in the entire book.
It was also so much fun catching up with the characters from The Hockey Problem. Seeing those familiar faces again made the world feel even richer, and now I’m counting down the days until Archer finally gets his story.
Ice Cold Chemistry is a heartwarming romance about learning to trust, opening yourself up to love, and finding comfort in someone you never expected. Kendall Ryan once again delivers a story that’s equal parts tender, funny, and swoony. If you’re looking for a feel-good hockey romance with fake dating, unforgettable characters, and a hero whose tough exterior hides the softest heart, this one deserves a spot on your TBR.
