Talk Hockey to Me is the third book of the Bears Hockey series. I love this series. I am also thankful to Kelly Jamieson for pointing out the importance of the mental health issues once again and while doing this she doesn’t do it depressingly. Even though this book can be read as a standalone, I recommend you to read the first two books of the series, Must Love Dogs…And Hockey and You Had Me at Hockey.
Hunter Morrisette plays hockey for the New Jersey Storm and the season just ended for his team. The end of the season is really important for him because his contract is up for renewal. Unfortunately, his agent, Vern Tayhan had a heart attack, and he won’t be back to work for a while. Hunter was looking forward to getting a longer contract with good pay, however, with his agent out of commission, he is in a hard place. Even years after the tragic accident he had, he is still struggling with PTSD. He thinks is his last chance to get a long-term contract. Hunter thinks there is only one person that can get him what he wants, Kate Bridges. Hockey is Kate’s life. All her life she ate and breathed hockey and after a successful hockey career in college, she decided to become an agent. She is still a rookie and after the bullying, she went through on her last company, she decided to go on her own. She is smart, strong, and caring. There is nothing she won’t do for her clients and what I loved the most is instead of overlooking her clients’ mistakes, she shows them the right way and coaches them to be better. While she is taking care of her clients, she is also trying to sign new players. But not in a million years, she would have expected a phone call from Hunter asking her to be his agent. Hunter and Kate knew each other from Bayard College. Since they both played hockey for the college teams and run in the same circles, they became pretty good friends. I really enjoyed the flashback to their college years; it wasn’t long but really helpful to get the know the characters better. I was rooting for them especially after seeing too many missed chances, but the timing was never right for them. Now after four years, their roads cross paths once again. Kate is not sure how their professional relationship will work after that sizzling hot night in Cancun, but she needs a new client and Hunter needs someone who understands him and does everything to get what he needs. Even though they do their best to fight the attraction between them, with every minute they spend together it becomes harder. I loved how supportive and understanding they’re with each other, their banter is sweet and fun, and their trust and friendship made me fall in love with them even more.
If you are looking for a sweet, inspiring, and un-put-downable second chance / friends-to-lovers story, this book might be just for you 🙂
