Book Review: Loverboy by Sarina Bowen

I love Sarina Bowen and always enjoyed her books. I cannot recall one that I didn’t like so loving this book isn’t surprising 🙂 I start following the Brooklyn Bruisers series from the beginning and just like many book lovers who are following the series, I was curious about Eric Bayer’s story. So when I read the news about her new series The Company and the first book being about Eric, I was surprised. Moonlighter, which was the first book of the series was a great mixture of Brooklyn Bruisers and The Company and a great introduction to The Company series.

For the ones who didn’t get a chance to read the Moonlighter here is a little bit of background information. The Company, yes we don’t know the real name of it since that information is classified and only the people who work there know the real name, is a security company originally owned by Carl Bayer but when Max Bayer showed interest in the company, he and his college friend, Gunnar Scott, joins the team as co-owners. With the value they added to the team, The Company became profitable and bigger. Nowadays while Max leads the East Coast operations, Gunnar leads the West Coast. We saw a tiny bit of Gunnar in the first book but not much to be curious about him. But no worries with Loverboy, we get a good dose of Gunnar and his protective alpha ways 🙂

Gunnar hates New York and he is pretty vocal about this so when Max asks him to come to New York, he knows it is for something important. Adding his favorite food and drink to his welcome NYC shuttle, he knows for sure that he is going to hate whatever Max has to say. Max fills Gunner in regarding the serial killer in New York. According to the lead they got, Gunner has to go undercover as a barista in Posy’s Pie Shop. However, there are some problems with Max’s plan. First of all, Gunnar doesn’t like coffee and his coffee knowledge is almost nonexistent. Secondly, Gunnar and Posy, who is the owner of the Posy’s Pie Shop, have a history. When he was in college, he was working as a barman at Posy’s family’s bar. They shared a kiss and then everything fell apart. Now years later, they have to work together once again but first Gunnar needs to use his undeniable charm to convince Posy to hire him as a barista. Posy Paxton is sweet, talented, and sassy. She just got out of a marriage and she is not looking for a relationship or a commitment. Her only commitment is to her pie shop, her sister Ginny and her nephew Aaron. When Gunnar shows up in her pie shop to apply for the barista job, she is not sure if she should give him a chance. But she is in a hard place and needs someone, so she decides to give it a try. What she didn’t take into account while hiring Gunnar is the chemistry and attraction they have. Also, she has no clue what she is in for with Gunnar being back in her life. It was fun to watch Gunnar and Posy fall in love and their banter is fantastic. Was it smart to fall for a guy who appeared years later out of nowhere? Can Gunnar succeed on his mission and while being in a relationship with Posy? Ohhh, the unknows 🙂 I am not going to give more details and spoil the story for you, that is for you to find out but let me tell you this. It came to a point and I was constantly saying OMG! OMG! and couldn’t stop reading 🙂

Loverboy is a sweet, swoony, action-packed story filled with steamy moments with a protective alpha male. I am not sure who’s book will be next in the series but Max’s story can’t come soon enough! I am pretty sure it will be Max and Scout’s story but with Sarina Bowen, you never know.
