The Dare by Elle Kennedy

I love Elle Kennedy and her writing style. She is like a magician. I am not sure how she perfectly balances lightness and the depth of her stories. Sadly, Dare is the fourth and last book of the BriarU. I am looking forward to reading her future books and I am pretty confident they will be as amazing as her previous books.

Conor is the latest addition to the Briar hockey team. He is a transfer student from California. Even though he is new to the team, his reputation as a notorious playboy is already out there. Conor is sweet, loyal, understanding, and easy-going. Growing up he didn’t have any money and was always struggling. Thanks to his stepfather, now he has money and attending an ivy league school; however, he feels like he doesn’t belong. His biggest personality flaw is, he gets bored easily and there aren’t many things that keep him interested. And finally, one day, he finds something/someone that keeps his interest. Actually, the correct version should be she finds him 🙂 Taylor Marsh is stubborn, opinionated, funny, intelligent, and kind. She is super insecure about her weight and snarky comments from her Kappa Chi sister Abigail doesn’t help her self-confidence at all. (P.S. I like it when a heroine has some meat on her bones, maybe it is because I can relate.) Thanks to malfunctioning speakers, their infamous sorority game ‘Dare or Dare’ is in action. Of course, Taylor is one of the first ones to be put in the spotlight by her nemesis Abigail. Her dare is something, she and everyone around her thinks will end up being a hugely embarrassing moment. The dare she doesn’t have any other choice but accept is to seduce one of the hottest hockey players in school. So, she walks up to Conor and asks him to follow her upstairs and act like they hooked up. Imagine how surprising this is for someone girls climb like a tree or do anything to get his attention. He is intrigued because nobody asks him to pretend. He usually does the act, not act the act. What started as a one night act, turns into an amazing friendship and fake dating. I loved how their relationship evolved. Of course, everything is not all sunshine and butterflies, they faced some disturbing events and their insecurities only put gas to the flames. Even though their insecurities run too deep, they have amazing friends, and more importantly, they have each other. From the outside, one can think they are an unlikely couple but in reality, they are a perfect match, insecurities, and all.

The Dare is funny, sweet, sexy, and so much more. If you enjoy friends to lovers or sports romance, this book might be just for you. Also, Connor’s roommates/teammates and Taylor’s best friend Sasha was amazing. Can’t wait for Elle’s next book and I am hoping she is not over Briar University just yet 🙂
