Book Review: ‘The Unhoneymooners’ by Christina Lauren

I love Christina Lauren and when I received this book I realized that I haven’t read from the duo for a while so I decided to catch-up a bit 🙂 So I read ‘My Favorite Half-Night Stand’ and ‘Dating You/Hating You’ prior to this. As always they did an amazing job. As for ‘The Unhoneymooners’, it is not my favorite book of the duo. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a bad book, it was fun, entertaining and easy read but it just didn’t work for me.

Olive Torres and Ethan Thomas hate each other. However, since Olive’s twin Ami is marrying with Ethan’s brother Dane, they have to endure each other for 24 hours. Ami is a super lucky person, thanks to her luck on Internet contests and her planning, her whole wedding cost NOTHING. Yeah, you read it write, she didn’t pay for anything which is why Olive end up wearing a hideous maid of honor dress. Unlike her twin Ami, Olive has been unlucky all her life. But it seems like for the first time in her likes she gets lucky. Thanks to free seafood buffet, everyone in the wedding gets food poisoning other Olive, who is allergic to shellfish, and Ethan, who is allergic to buffets. Since the all expenses paid honeymoon in Maui is not refundable and the bride and groom is too sick to go, Ami insists that Olive and Ethan should take their places. Even though, spending 10 days in paradise with your nemesis doesn’t feel right, they decided to take the vacation and avoid each other as much as possible. However, running to her future boss when Olive was playing fake Mrs. Thomas, takes their fake marriage to a new level. Olive is smart, sassy and lively. Once she started spending time with Ethan and getting to know him, she realizes that he is opposite of what she believed. He is sweet, funny and really mature. Their hate for each other just started out of some misunderstandings and misguidance. Once they cleared the air between themselves, their fake honeymoon starts to feel real because they decide to act on their attraction. The only problem is after being isolated for 10 days in paradise, they are not sure how their relationship will work in real world. Being back to real life will bring drama to their fresh relationship and reveals too many secrets out.

‘The Unhoneymooners’ is fun, entertaining and easy read. I really enjoyed the banter between Olive and Ethan. I think it would be nice to read Ami’s story as well.
