‘Overtime’ was the most emotional and heartbreaking story of the ‘Assassins’ series for me. Our couple for the book is Jordie Thomas, a.k.a. JT and Kacey King. If you read ‘Laces and Lace’ you already know who they are. JT is Karson King, who is Kacey’s brother, best friend. The impression you get from the previous books that JT is a party animal and a total man-whore but with this book your previous impression will go down the drain. Toni Aleo does a great job at showing all his broken parts of him and it makes it hard to hate the guy.
After getting injured JT’s life spirals out of control. He tries to numb his pain with alcohol and women and he constantly keeps doing stupid stuff because of his fears. As always Elli steps in and pushes JT to make choice. He will either go in to rehab and gets the control of his life or he will be out of the team. Because hockey is his life, he decides to go in to rehab and once he gets himself together, he wants to get the girl back whose heart he shattered.
Kacey King is stubborn, feisty and caring. She is a hockey player who won the gold medal in the Olympics. After she reaches her ultimate career goal, she decides to become a trainer for Assassins and pick up the pieces of her shattered heart. She knew the risks for falling in love with JT but she hoped that her love would be enough to fix him but she end up feeling abandoned and heartbroken.
After getting out of rehab, he moves into Karson and Lacey’s home and his sole purpose is to convince Kacey to give him a second chance. He believes he doesn’t deserve Kacey but he loves her too much to walk away. When Kacey caves in and gives him a second chance, they have to face their fears, insecurities, and demons but this gets frustrating at times because Kacey is still having trust issues. OMG! In some parts I was so pissed at Kacey because she was soo hard headed and cause JT more pain. I was really proud of JT for not giving up and trying to be a better man. After reading the hell of a childhood he had, my heart broken to million pieces. I don’t know how Toni Aloe did it but she wrote it in a way that makes you feel everything JT felt and I was crying hard in some parts. This book made me fall in love with Kings family more. Karl and Regina, they rock 🙂 And I totally hated JT’s mom, who is a crazy b*tch.
As an ‘Assassins’ classic, it was great to see some of the other characters from previous books and got to pieces of their lives and I totally liked the new addition to the Assassins family, Benji, and cannot wait to write the review of his book 🙂
‘Overtime’ is an inspiring book that will show you the importance of family, believing in yourself, moving forward, forgiveness, patience, determination, understanding, and owning and fixing your mistakes. JT and Kacey’s story made me cry, laugh, swoon and feel frustrated but it was all worth it in the end seeing how they healed each other.

Thank you 🙂 If you enjoy sports romance, give it a try. It is one of my favorite series and Toni Aleo is one of the authors, I read without even checking the reviews or synopsis.
