The youngest coach in the league, juggling the pressures of his career while also being the guardian to his tween nephew, made him even more lovable. Their chemistry is electric—full of tension, banter, and deep emotions that had me rooting for them from the start.
One thing I love about Sarina Bowen’s writing is how seamlessly she blends romance and sports. The hockey scenes feel authentic and engaging, adding more depth to the story. The book also masterfully incorporates tropes like second chances, forbidden romance, forced proximity, and even a touch of the single-dad (guardian) trope—all woven together beautifully to create an emotional and swoony read.
I also appreciated how the book tackles the reality of being openly queer in professional sports. While it’s a fictional setting, the themes of acceptance and navigating personal identity in a high-profile career felt incredibly relevant and well-handled.
If you’re a fan of M/M hockey romance, The Last Guy on Earth is an absolute must-read. It’s emotional, steamy, and full of heart, with a beautifully satisfying ending. I adored every moment of Jethro and Clay’s journey, and I couldn’t put this book down.
