Review: Chase Lovett Wants Me by Helena Hunting

As a longtime fan of Helena Hunting, I couldn’t wait to dive into Chase Lovett Wants Me. A college hockey romance with an opposites-attract twist? Sign me up! This standalone, which ties into the beloved Toronto Terror series, delivers all the charm, humor, and heart you’d expect from her books.

The story kicks off with a hilarious mix-up: Cammie Lovelock, a quirky and endearing heroine, finds herself sharing a hotel room (and one bed!) with Chase Lovett, the campus hockey star she’s been secretly crushing on. What follows is a delightful journey as these two navigate unexpected chemistry, LOTR references, and a world of emotional growth.

Cammie’s geeky love for fantasy fandoms made her such a relatable and lovable protagonist. I appreciated how her character combined vulnerability with strength, especially as she navigated her insecurities and newfound relationship with Chase. And Chase? He’s the perfect blend of confident athlete and genuinely sweet guy, learning to step out of his comfort zone to connect with Cammie on her terms. His genuine curiosity about her world—fanfic and all—was beyond heartwarming.

The humor, a trademark of Helena Hunting, shines throughout the story. From the awkward hotel mix-up to laugh-out-loud banter, the book kept me smiling. Yet, it also delivered tender emotional moments that gave the romance real depth. While less steamy than some of Hunting’s other works, the chemistry between Cammie and Chase felt authentic and perfectly matched their story.

I loved the supporting cast, particularly Chase’s teammates and Cammie’s sister, Essie. They added so much depth and charm to the story, leaving me excited to explore their lives in future books. The brief nods to the Toronto Terror universe were a treat for longtime fans, making the book feel like catching up with old friends.

Although a touch of mean-girl drama tugged at my heart for Cammie, it was resolved quickly, and I admired how Cammie handled it with grace and confidence. The ending tied everything together beautifully, and the epilogue was the perfect cherry on top—a sweet, satisfying conclusion.

Chase Lovett Wants Me is a delightful read, packed with humor, heart, and plenty of swoon-worthy moments. It’s a must-read for fans of college romances, hockey heroes, and Helena Hunting’s signature storytelling. I’m already counting down the days for the next Tilton University book—Gage, Brody, and Tally, I’m ready for you!

Happy reading!
