Review: Whistle by Cambria Hebert

Whistle, the final installment of Cambria Hebert’s Westbrook Elite series, left me with all the feels. As the eighth book, it wraps up the series in a way that feels like saying goodbye to old friends. I’ve grown so attached to the Elite crew, and while I’m sad to let them go, I’m holding out hope that Cambria might surprise us with a novella or short story down the line. I mean, can we ever really have enough of these guys?

The story follows Bodhi Lawson, who is at his lowest point after losing his twin sister and burning bridges with those closest to him. When Bodhi calls Rush for help, it’s none other than Coach Emmett Resch who steps up. What unfolds is an intense and emotional journey as Bodhi joins the Westbrook Elite team under Coach’s supervision, where sparks fly in more ways than one. The dynamic between Bodhi’s brash, wild personality and Coach’s calm, composed demeanor keeps the tension sizzling throughout. Cambria nailed it once again, giving us that perfect balance of angst, heart, and swoon-worthy moments.

I loved how we finally got a deeper look into Coach Resch’s past. He’s been such a mysterious figure from the beginning, and this book does justice to his character’s complexity. His relationship with Bodhi is as fiery as it is healing. Both characters are hiding from their painful pasts, but together they find a way to confront their guilt and start to heal. Their chemistry is electric, and the emotional stakes make their connection all the more powerful.

One of the highlights for me was seeing Bodhi integrate into the Elite family. Watching him slowly bond with the rest of the gang was heartwarming, especially his interactions with Lars and the other bros. The camaraderie between these characters always shines through, and I couldn’t help but laugh at their antics—especially during the hilarious auction scene!

And that epilogue—talk about a heart-stopping moment! I thought it was all going to fall apart, but thankfully, Cambria didn’t leave us hanging in the worst possible way. As much as I loved the book, I can’t shake the feeling that there’s still more to explore. Maybe a wedding? Or even an Olympics spin-off? Whatever happens next, I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters for good.

Overall, Whistle delivered everything I love about the Westbrook Elite series. It’s full of passion, drama, and that trademark wit we’ve come to expect from Cambria. I couldn’t put it down, and even though it’s the longest book in the series, it flew by for me. If you love college sports romances with deep character development, sizzling chemistry, and a whole lot of heart, this is a book (and series!) you don’t want to miss.

Happy reading!

About Cambria Hebert:

Cambria Hebert is a bestselling novelist of more than fifty titles. She went to college for a bachelor’s degree, couldn’t pick a major, and ended up with a degree in cosmetology. So rest assured her characters will always have good hair.

Besides writing, Cambria loves a pumpkin spice latte, staying up late, sleeping in, and watching K drama until her eyes won’t stay open. She considers math human torture and has an irrational fear of chickens (yes, chickens). You can often find her running on the treadmill (she’d rather be eating a donut), painting her toenails (because she bites her fingernails), or walking her chihuahuas (the real bosses of the house).

Cambria has written in many genres, including new adult, sports romance, male/male romance, sci-fi, thriller, suspense, contemporary romance, and young adult. Many of her titles have been translated into foreign languages and have been the recipients of multiple awards.
